Salary: £31,604 - £38,833 or £39,922 - £50,618

We seek a highly motivated researcher to join a team of scientists that utilise singe particle cryo-electron microscopy for protein structure determination.

The University of Cambridge has recently established a new state-of-the-art Cryo-EM facility housing a 200 kV Talos Artica and 300 kV Titan Krios (direct electron detectors) for high-resolution structure determination. We also collect data using the high-end electron microscopes at the Diamond Electron BioImaging Centre through peer-reviewed Block Allocation Group access. We have excellent computing infrastructure (both local and University High Performance Cluster).

The Warren lab uses a multidisciplinary approach including genetics, biochemistry and structural studies (Zyryanova et al. BioRxiv 224824; doi: doi.org/10.1101/224824; Warren AJ. Adv Biol Regul doi: 10.1016/j.jbior.2017.09.002; Weis et al. Nature Struct Biol 22: 914-19; Wong et al. Blood 118:4305-12; Barlow et al. Nat Med. 16: 59-66; Finch et al. Genes Dev 25: 917-929; Menne et al. Nature Genetics 39: 486-95) to investigate mechanisms of eukaryotic ribosome maturation and to understand how corruption of this process causes bone marrow failure and cancer predisposition.

The primary responsibilities of the candidate will be to work with other team members on sample preparation and screening, ensure high quality data acquisition on the Titan Krios microscope, provide guidance and expertise in using the latest image processing programmes and structure determination.

The candidate will have a PhD in a relevant area of the biological sciences with expertise in data collection on the Titan Krios electron microscope, data processing and structure determination. The candidate will have good technical communication and teaching skills. Suitable candidates will be put forward for the position of Senior Research Associate with a salary commensurate with qualifications and skills.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
