IT Helpdesk Support Officer

Do you have strong people skills and an interest in learning more about and supporting all aspects of IT? We are seeking to appoint an IT Helpdesk officer to work in within our IT team. You will be keen, quick to learn, and approachable. You will be required to be flexible and must be able to operate at many levels, including the ability to support users, and to assist in the installation and maintenance of software.

You will work as part of a cohesive team of an IT Manager, IT Officer, and a number of computational scientists, and will provide front line support to all users. You will gain experience working with a wide range of technologies, including large scale storage, 10/40Gb networks, and high performance computing as well as the full range of desktops and servers.

Strong technical, documentation and troubleshooting skills are essential. Your duties will include managing the department’s IT helpdesk, triaging technical queries for IT support on all aspects of IT within the department. You will ensure that requests for support are dealt with in a timely manner, escalating queries, identification of major incidents and handling communications in the event of such an incident occurring during the shift.

The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with users at all levels in an academic environment is essential. You must have excellent time management skills and ability to manage pressure of supporting a busy department.
