Medical Statistician (Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow)

In this position you will collaborate in the analysis of a variety of research projects in respiratory medicine, offering expert statistical advice to clinical researchers. Specifically, you will become an integral member of the COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) research group, carrying out statistical analysis, offering statistical advice to researchers carrying out their own analyses, contributing to applications for further funding, and contributing to writing up research findings. There will be opportunity for professional development and training as appropriate, and the appointee will be expected to present research findings at conferences. Some time will be given to teaching and lecturing in the Faculty.

You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications in Medical or Biostatistics, hold, or be about to obtain, an MSc in Medical Statistics or closely related discipline. A working knowledge of statistical packages such as SPSS, Stata, SAS or R is essential, as is the ability to communicate and work with non-statisticians.

2 year fixed term contract with possibility of extension.

Depending on experience the position will be appointed at either Research Fellow grade, Level 4 - £29,799 to £36,613 per annum or a Senior Research Fellow grade, Level 5 - £37,706 to £42,418.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
