Assistant Professor of International and Comparative Politics

The American University of Paris invites applications for a part-time position in the Department of International and Comparative Politics at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 1, 2018. Applicants should have a specialization in International Humanitarian and International Human Rights Law, and/or international institutions and international diplomacy/negotiations.

Courses are in the areas of International Law and International Diplomacy/Negotiation at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Interests should include International Conflict Resolution and Negotiation, International Criminal Law, the relationship between international and domestic law; international governance and organizations, the role of NGOs and lawyers; international law applicable during international armed conflicts, counter-terrorism, military justice, and military courts. A regional emphasis is open, but a focus on the Middle East is of interest.


A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline or Juris Doctor by time of appointment (August 1, 2018), and a proven capacity for research (peer-reviewed publications) and engaged interactive teaching. The candidate must be able to speak and write in fluent English. French fluency is not required but is a plus. Ability in other languages, notably non-European languages, also constitutes a plus

Teaching load of four courses per year including introductory courses in international law, courses in conflict resolution and negotiation/mediation, human rights, and different global challenges.
