Lecturer in Viral Immune Evasion

Queen's University Belfast - Centre for Experimental Medicine
, School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences

The Centre for Experimental Medicine provides an outstanding interdisciplinary and collegiality environment to answer major questions of human health by understanding the molecular mechanisms of disease. The Centre is an excellent hub for research on host-pathogen (viral and bacteria) interactions, basic immunology, respiratory medicine and vision and vascular medicine; therefore providing unique opportunities for fast track translation of basic discoveries into human health. The Centre has accessed to core facilities including biosafety 2 and 3 laboratories, bioinformatics and high computing, genomics, imaging and biological services.

The successful candidate will strengthen the academic base within the Centre, they will teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and will contribute to School and Centre administration/outreach activity.

We seek candidates whose research focuses on innovative molecular approaches to investigate viral mechanisms of immune evasion and alteration of cell signalling. We are interested on candidates working on human viral infections but outstanding candidates working in other viral infection models will be also considered. Candidates who have an interest to develop a translational programme collaborating with clinicians are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate must have:

  • A Primary Degree.
  • A PhD in a related subject area.
  • A minimum of three years’ research experience at postdoctoral level in a relevant microbial pathogenesis field.
  • Recent, relevant publications in peer reviewed/refereed journals that are at recognised internationally as being high quality, commensurate with experience.
  • A research profile which complements the Immunobiology and Microbes research priorities and strengths of the Centre for Experimental Medicine (in particular, a research focus on innovative molecular approaches to investigate viral mechanisms of immune evasion and alteration of cell signaling).
  • Experience of developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques.
  • Experience of presentations at national and international meetings and conferences
  • Relevant teaching experience at University Level.
  • Relevant academic administrative/management experience.
