Research Assistant/Research Associate in Qualitative Research

The Department of Applied Health Research conducts multidisciplinary research to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of health care and public health interventions. The post holder will be working on a Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation-funded project on safetynetting in general practice. The post holder will be responsible for recruiting general practitioners and patients from NHS primary care settings. They will conduct qualitative interviews and perform qualitative analysis, and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.

This is a full time post but applicants who wish to work park time (29.2 hours per week or 80% FTE) are welcome. It is funded until 31st December 2019 in the first instance.

This is a role for a researcher with a psychology, social science or medical background who has either completed a PhD or has an equivalent level of experience. Experience of using qualitative methods is essential, as well as a track record of NHS-based recruitment, ideally in primary care. Experience or knowledge of early diagnosis of cancer and symptom appraisal is also desirable. This role would suit someone who is well organised and meticulous about their work. Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD or have relevant equivalent experience; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
