Communications and Marketing Officer

University College London - UCL Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy (STEaPP)

UCL STEaPP is seeking a Communications and Marketing Officer to manage its internal and external communications and marketing on both a strategic and an operational level. UCL STEaPP operates at the interface between science, technology, engineering and public policy. Its explicit outward-facing, policy-focused approach is unusual for academic departments – and consequently the role of communications and marketing carries with it atypical strategic importance. The Communications and Marketing Officer (CMO) in UCL STEaPP is key to nurturing and scaling up the Department’s educational and research programmes as well as its emerging policy activities. The CMO will shape STEaPP’s communications and marketing strategy and execute it, with the direct support of an events coordinator and an internal communications administrator.

Among the strategic needs of STEaPP, and the role of the CMO, are brand development and management, developing the department’s internal communications, building and managing media relations including a proactive approach to public commentary, developing and project managing STEaPP publications and marketing collateral (including print, video and audio), developing a market-leading website, student recruitment, and managing STEaPP’s communications team. The role holder will work collaboratively with the Public Policy Manager on a number of projects, including to commission and install a CRM for STEaPP, which will be critical to communications and marketing.
