RBS are looking to recruit a high calibre and experienced Catering Manager. Responsible for the management, delivery and development of a high quality, effective and efficient catering service within a set financial framework.

Reporting to the Deputy Director, the role will also be responsible for ensuring, a culture of food and service development, the highest standard of food quality, service levels and customer care and satisfaction. Responding effectively and efficiently meeting the needs of students, staff and external customers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work effectively as part of the RBS management team, delivering RBS strategies and goals, working cross functionally where appropriate;
  • Manage and resolve operational issues which arise regarding delivery of catering and related services. Liaising and communicating with other internal parties and units to proactively and objectively analyse information and find solutions;
  • Primary responsibility for excellence in operational standards, food quality, safety and service, maximising the student food experience;
  • Monitor and actively seek ways to achieve and improve the annually agreed level of student food and service satisfaction meeting University standards and RBS objectives, evidenced through customer feedback mechanisms;
  • Maintain a presence and visibility across the catering sites, visiting each regularly, establishing, maintaining and developing staff relations, ensuring regular customer contact;
  • Manage and ensure all catering operations comply with statutory requirements on food safety and, as appropriate, with general and particular codes of practice in respect to Health and Safety. Draft, implement, monitor and update the University Food Safety Policy, HACCP documentation, Food Hygiene codes of practice and local H&S procedures;
  • Provide and ensure direct support for the catering operation, by management cover, attending hospitality events if required and on-job training;
  • Recruit, induct, develop and manage the highest calibre staff, ensuring all are trained to meet operational and statutory requirements. Customer care and satisfaction standards are the foremost priority.  Including the management of chef managers and floating chefs regarding the deployment to other areas, to support business demands;
  • Proactively achieve agreed performance standards and budgetary requirements. Consistently monitor and evaluate financial targets, operational performances and productivity. Report to Deputy Director on performance levels, investigating and acting on any variances in a timely manner;
  • Promote a professional image of St Andrews University at all times.

You should hold a degree or equivalent in hospitality management or a related discipline, have a broad knowledge of working in the hospitality industry with operational experience within a commercial environment. The requirement for passion in customer service and quality and excellent customer and people management skills is a must. Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately at all levels including the principal’s office.
