Job Purpose
To deliver undergraduate education in Medicine in Relation to Dentistry. This post would suit an experienced dental surgeon who has had recent experience of the management of medically compromised dental patients in out-patient and in-patient facilities and who has experience of teaching the importance of the medical-dental interface to undergraduate dental students.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To play a key role in the delivery of teaching of Medicine in Relation to Dentistry (Human Disease) to undergraduate dental students. On average there are 80-90 undergraduate students a year and this post focuses primarily on BDS2 and BDS3 students. Bringing alive the importance of human diseases and their management to the practice to dentistry is the mainstay of this post. The post-holder will introduce students to patients with various body system disorders and discuss the relevance of such disorders, and their management, to dentistry.
  • To participate in the design and delivery of a range of teaching and assessment activities within Medicine in Relation to Dentistry in Glasgow Dental Hospital & School and associated clinical facilities for undergraduate students, in accordance with the teaching objectives of the Dental School. This would include delivery of tutorials and lectures in addition to clinical teaching.
  • To participate in the development of creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, ensuring that the educational opportunities available to students are maintained and significantly improved.
  • To provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support learning.
  • To undertake administrative duties associated with the delivery of undergraduate teaching.

Standard Terms & Conditions

The salary will be on the Clinical Academic grade of the scales for; £33,131 - £58,598 per annum, pro rata, based on 7 hours per week.

An honorary clinical contract of appropriate seniority will be arranged by application to the NHS.

The successful applicants (if aged under 60) will be eligible to join the Universities’ Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available for the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.

All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University’s relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court’s policies.
