Research Fellow (78388-028)

University of Warwick

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in quantum metrology and sensing in the quantum information science group of Dr. Animesh Datta.

The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration until 30 November 2019.

The post will develop theoretical techniques for quantum-enhanced sensing (quantum metrology) of multiple parameters. Particular emphasis is to be placed on designing novel schemes using methods from quantum and classical information theory, and analysing them using methods from estimation theory. It will also develop methods amenable to practical implementation with emerging quantum technologies by combating decoherence effects in these schemes, for instance by employing strategies from quantum error correction and quantum control.

The Research Fellow will work with graduate students and other Research Fellows in the quantum information science group of Dr. Animesh Datta. The group is part of two of the four UK Quantum Technologies Programme.

Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining a PhD in physics or mathematics and have a strong background in quantum information theory, ideally quantum sensing and metrology. Candidates are expected to demonstrate knowledge of mathematical topics such as Bayesian methods and semi-definite programming.

The candidate must be capable of working within a broader research team, demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills, and maintaining a current knowledge of the quantum information literature.

The application should include a CV, list of publications, a statement of research interests, and the contact information of three referees. References will be taken up prior to interview for shortlisted candidates. The post reference number should be quoted in all correspondence.

Informal inquiries can be made to Dr. Animesh Datta (animesh.datta@warwick.ac.uk). Further details about the research group can also be obtained at www.warwick.ac.uk/qinfo.

Interview Date: Second week of April 2018.
