Brunel University London’s sports subjects are ranked in the World Top 100 and Top 10 in the UK (QS World University Rankings 2017) based on academic reputation, employment outcomes and research power. In REF 2014, Brunel was ranked 5th overall in UoA26. Its student and staff profile is diverse and broad, bringing an array of backgrounds and viewpoints to the forefront of the complex multidisciplinary challenges surrounding sport, exercise, health and wellbeing today.

Housed within the Department for Life Sciences, the Division of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences is home to about 500 undergraduate and 150 postgraduate students, 22 academic staff, with an annual income of c. £6 million. Its nationally leading sports facilities and high calibre reputation has ensured strong links with national and international sporting bodies and individuals, attracting the likes of Usain Bolt and Sport England.

The Division is now seeking to appoint a new Divisional Lead to provide academic leadership and further strengthen its education portfolio and student experience; research output, environment and impact; professional partnerships; and academic staff development. Reporting to the Head of Department, the appointee will help mould the development of the discipline in a fast-growing and ambitious environment by providing visionary leadership and strategic direction, with particular attention to cross disciplinary research areas such as Healthy Aging and Health and Wellbeing. S/he will be an excellent academic in their own right, and will have successfully led the development of world-class research and educational activity in a relevant area. As an inspiring leader, s/he will offer a compelling vision for the future of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences at Brunel, such that they will be able to seize this opportunity to contribute to the development and future success of Brunel as one of the world's leading teaching and research universities.

The Professorial appointment is permanent, while the Divisional Lead appointment is full time and for a fixed term (renewable), initially of 4 years’ duration, with an internationally competitive salary and benefits package.
