Job Summary

We are recruiting a Policy Officer to join our small Drug Resistant Infections (DRI) team. In this role, you will to lead small projects (and strands of wider projects) to help develop and deliver key policy and advocacy elements of our global work on DRI.

About the job

In this role you will:

  • Lead on work streams and elements of policy projects, alongside colleagues in the DRI team and in other parts of Wellcome
  • Carry out desk research and scoping at the start of projects
  • Shape and advance internal pieces of policy research and development work
  • Work with external stakeholders to identify areas of shared interest, and to maintain relationships through the course of projects (including understanding areas of possible friction and working with others to devise strategies to overcome these)
  • Work with Wellcome’s communications teams to formulate and deliver advocacy strategies in support of the project objectives
  • Carry out analysis covering specific issues within projects, for example analysis of stakeholder feedback or consequences arising from specific policy options (presenting clear recommendations)
  • Maintain project documentation, for example reporting project progress and defining risks to project delivery

Occasional domestic and international travel will be required.

Experience & Skills

About you

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to have:

  • Experience of working with policy processes, for example working with the preparation and analysis of policy options or standard progress reporting
  • Time management and prioritisation skills
  • Written and verbal communication skills – able to communicate key concepts and project objectives clearly to expert and non-expert audiences
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills – able to identify key considerations
  • Stakeholder management skills – able to prioritise stakeholders in counterpart organisations and build relationships with higher-priority stakeholders
  • Presentation skills – able to convene and lead agenda items at small to medium-sized meetings
