The Faculty of Arts of the University of Lausanne invites applications for a full-time assistantship in Modern English Literature in the English Department.

Expected start date: 1st Sept. 2018.
Contract length : One-year contract, followed by two-year contract, renewable once only, for a total of five years maximum.
Activity rate: 100%

Your responsibilities

  • 50% min. doctoral research (PhD thesis)
  • 50% max. teaching and administration
  • The appointee will be expected to conduct research (50% time) and complete a PhD thesis in the field of Modern English Literature, and participate in research activies (conferences, workshops, etc.).
  • Teach a first-year or BA-level course (2h/semester) in academic writing and/or literary analysis, and eventually an advanced BA-level seminar linked to his/her research project.
  • Participate in administrative tasks and contribute to the life of the English section.

Your qualifications
The candidate should have an excellent MA degree in English Literature.
Priority will be given to candidates with research interest and expertise in Contemporary British and/or Irish Poetry.
An interest in environmental writing and/or classical reception studies may be an advantage, as well as a track record of successful early research (a published article, or conference papers, etc).
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in, and signs of aptitude for, teaching English literature at University level.
Proficiency in French is required.
