Research Assistant

The University of Edinburgh - Linguistics and English Language

College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

A full time post for a Research Assistant with expertise in the experimental study of pragmatics is available in Linguistics & English Language in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious researcher to join a Leverhulme-funded project “I see what you mean” on experimental pragmatics (Principal Investigator: Dr Hannah Rohde).

The aim is to explore how comprehenders draw inferences about discourse coherence and how such inferences impact other linguistic phenomena, with the ultimate goal of understanding how speakers formulate their messages and how comprehenders recover such messages in real-time. The post holder will be responsible for key research-related activities, including designing, running, analysing and writing up a series of production and comprehension experiments.

Applications are invited from those with PhD in linguistics, cognitive science, psychology, or a related discipline, and a strong track record of research and publication in relevant areas.

This is a full-time, 35 hours per week, fixed term post for a period of 12 months.

Closing Date: 5pm (GMT) 13th March 2018.

Interviews are expected to be held mid April 2018.
