The Web Development team is responsible for the development and support of the University web sites, online applications and the intranet. As a Web Developer, you will work as part of a small team to develop and maintain City websites and bespoke web applications, and provide support for content editors.


You will:

  • Contribute to the development of the primary City websites, including https://www.city.ac.uk/https://www.cass.city.ac.uk/and https://www.citysport.org.uk/.
  • Provide second-line support for the University web sites, liaising with the IT Service Desk and content editors to resolve problems.
  • Support and develop other City web services and applications.
  • Work with City stakeholders to gather requirements, advise on web development best practices and contribute to project planning.
  • Work with specialist technical staff to ensure the smooth-running and availability of websites.
  • Develop and maintain relevant skills and knowledge.

Person Specification


  • Excellent knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Experience with client-side JavaScript libraries such as React.js, jQuery, etc.
  • Experience developing responsive, accessible, and standards-compliant web sites.
  • Knowledge of web standards and progressive enhancement.
  • Knowledge and experience of software testing, including unit testing, integration testing, user acceptance testing, etc.
  • Experience with developing for web content management systems.
  • Experience with a Unix shell such as bash or zsh.
  • Good interpersonal and team-working skills.
  • Good problem analysis and solving skills.
