University of Oxford - Finance Division, Said Business School

The Purchasing Department of the University of Oxford is part of the Finance Division, and provides a professional purchasing service to the University in support of the delivery of world-class research and teaching activities.

Located within the Saïd Business School and reporting to the Senior Purchasing Manager, you will work closely with the Business School IT team to develop and manage internal and external strategic relationships. As Purchasing Manager, you will ensure that the Business School’s IT purchasing activities compliment the needs of the Business School and the University, ensuring that the Business School leverages its full spend potential and achieves best value for money.

The responsibilities for this role include developing and implementing Purchasing strategies in line with the Business School and University objectives; developing a robust category management approach; negotiating and bringing to completion robust contractual agreements with category suppliers, ensuring value for money and in accordance with best practise; re-negotiating existing agreements with category suppliers; identifying, developing, and implementing continuous improvement opportunities both within the Business School and the University; identifying and reporting on value for money activities within your category, and acting as a local expert and first point of contact within the category for the Business School and suppliers.

To be considered at shortlisting you should have several years of purchasing experience and a proven ability of negotiating complex arrangements with suppliers; constructing and negotiating contractual terms; developing strategic plans for the category and evidence of successfully executing those plans; driving value for money/savings in the category; continuous improvement initiatives with category specific suppliers and internal customers and influencing at all levels within the organisation. You should be educated to degree level and be actively studying for or a full member of CIPS.
