Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Complex Networks and GIS (Urban Dynamics Lab)

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be Grade 7 £34,635 - £41,864, Grade 8 £43,023 - £50,753 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Bartlett Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) research focuses on what is one of the grand challenges of 21st Century science: to build a science of cities from a multidisciplinary base, drawing on cutting edge methods, and ideas in modelling, complexity, visualisation and computation. Our current mix of architects, planners, geographers, mathematicians, physicists, transport engineers, and computer scientists make CASA a unique and world-leading unit within the Faculty of the Built Environment at UCL. The researcher will be part of the Urban Dynamics Lab (UDL) www.ucl.ac.uk/urban-dynamics-lab at UCL, which is a five-year EPSRC-funded research project, one of six Digital Economy Next Stage Centres in the UK, bringing together expertise from across UCL (Space Syntax, Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis, UCL Geography/Consumer Data Research Centre, and UCL Computer Science), to explore and address questions at the intersection of city and regional development and spatial analytics, data science and computing.

This post is funded for two years in the first instance with the possibility of extension to September 2020.

We are seeking a highly-motivated individual with a PhD in complexity sciences, physics, mathematics, computer sciences or any other relevant area, and who has experience in complex multilayer networks embedded in space, and is well-versed in GIS. We are looking for individuals to construct multilayer networks using spatial data. Expertise in data base creation and manipulation, high level programming languages, and a thorough knowledge of spatial data and GIS packages are essential.
