Research Associate Hybrid Additive Manufactured-Aramid Fibre Body Armour Project

Loughborough Design School's Design for Digital Fabrication Research Group is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to assist in the development of the next generation of personal body armour. The project aims to produce the first-generation hybrid Additive Manufactured (3D Printed) - aramid fibre body armour capable of providing protection against stab and ballistic threats, is supported by the EPSRC (EP/R015155/1) and partnered by the UK Home Office Centre for Applied Science and Technology (CAST)

The post holder will undertake a range of material optimisation and extensive Computer-Aided Design (CAD) activities relating to the use of Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) technologies, as well as stab and ballistic validation exercises. Applicants are therefore likely to be from a design engineering, product design, industrial design, design research, or additive manufacturing background.

The project will involve working with colleagues across Loughborough University and associated project partners, with the post holder being responsible for delivering research outputs that contribute to journal publications, conference presentations, and follow on research proposals.
