Located in the centre of London, the Physics and Astronomy department at UCL is one of the leading Physics and Astronomy departments in the UK with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research. It is also one of the largest UCL departments with +200 staff and +800 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

As might be expected, it is also an extremely research active department. We are now seeking to recruit a Research Officer to assist us in supporting this research activity. This position will be instrumental in delivery of the department’s research administration-related tasks. The key aspects of the role will be to facilitate pre and post award support to researchers re grant applications and funding administration. The post-holder will also provide support for the upcoming REF exercise; general management and monitoring of current and proposed research projects and management information to inform strategic decisions around research in the department. These will contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to enhance the department’s research output.

Candidates should be educated to a minimum of A level standard, or the equivalent, and have worked in an administration role within a Higher or Further Education Institution, preferably in a research intensive environment. You must be numerate with excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prioritise and effectively manage a high workload whilst working under pressure.  

You will be able to work accurately and pay attention to detail. You must be enthusiastic about learning and have a professional and proactive outlook and must be committed to excellent customer service with the ability to remain calm and accurate even when under pressure. A key requirement is the willingness to be flexible and an active team member.
