Professional Tutor in Education

Applications are invited for the position of a Professional Tutor in Education within the School of Education & Social Work. The recent success in attracting funding to develop innovative and creative initial teacher education programmes requires the School to increase current staffing.

The role of the successful applicant will be that of Professional Tutor whose primary functions will be to develop the expertise of the students on programmes in the field of teacher education, including our international distance learning programmes.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 4 years’ experience teaching in schools with experience across a range of age groups. This is to ensure candidates will have sufficient expertise and experiences across the whole school year to a significant depth and breadth. Applicants should be registered with or eligible to register with the General Teaching Council Scotland.

The level of appointment will depend on level of qualifications and professional experience.

Summary of Skills, Experience and Qualifications

The post holder will be required to prioritise and manage a diverse workload including:

• Design, teach and assess units, including interactive online learning materials, as a member of a team, ensuring content, methods of delivery and learning resources meet defined learning objectives

• Assess students' academic work and their professional competence during professional placements

• Support and teach on campus-based and international distance learning programmes

• Challenge thinking, foster debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and rational thinking

• Build internal and external contacts and participate in both internal and external networks for the exchange of information and to form relationships in the future

• Undertake such other duties to further the School strategy as shall be deemed appropriate.
