Lecturer in Multi-Platform Media

University of Buckingham

Lecturer A, 0.6 Fte

The University of Buckingham is expanding its undergraduate media and journalism programmes and consequently has a vacancy for a permanent lecturer in multi-platform design. The chosen candidate will take the lead in the teaching and assessment of our Online Content Design, Design for Print, Social Media and Data-To-Story modules. Teaching will involve 8-12 hours per week per module classroom time plus assignment marking and exam setting, and assisting in the rolling programme of production by our student news team. The academic year includes a full term’s study leave, which, if not devoted to research/freelance publication under the University aegis, will be devoted to innovative activities that directly enhance the reputation and cultural life of the department

The successful candidate will have significant commercial publication and digital design experience and will be an expert user of, and preferably an experienced instructor in, the Adobe Creative Suite and associated programs. This post is not suitable for new graduates or those whose journalism experience is restricted to universities, although familiarity with Quality Assurance practice in UK higher education is desirable.

S/he will be expected to play a full part in the activities of the journalism department, which has an enviable reputation for its practical approach to the formation of savvy multi-platform apprentices to the trade. S/he will support students in their endeavours in all forms of media by having a can-do attitude, solid news sense and a firm belief in community learning.

As the department grows there will be opportunities to progress to a more senior position and to develop the role to full-time status.

The University of Buckingham is the UK's only independent University with a royal charter. It is committed to excellence and to providing an outstanding service to its students.  The University is consistently at the top of the National Student Satisfaction survey and was awarded a gold rating in the government’s
Teaching Excellence Framework.
