Professor (34617-028)

University of Warwick - Department of Sociology

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to join our thriving Department of Sociology as a Professor of Sociology and to contribute fully to its development.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding sociologist with an international reputation in any field of sociology. They will have made significant contributions to scholarship and research in sociology and will be required to deliver high quality publications in sociology to complement the Department of Sociology’s existing research profile and to enhance its submission to REF 2021. The Department has focused its research in three research clusters: Economy, Technology, Expertise; Inequalities and Social Change; Justice, Authority and the Geopolitical. It also houses the Social Theory Centre and the Centre for the Study of Women and Gender.

We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in any field of sociology. We are looking for candidates who can make contributions to core modules in sociology, theory and methods, or to more specialised modules in areas such as criminology, gender and society, global sociology, and media and culture. We welcome applications from candidates involved in interdisciplinary research collaborations.

Applications from candidates with black and minority ethnic backgrounds are particularly welcome as these groups are currently under-represented within the department.

Potential candidates are welcome to contact the Head of Department, Professor John Solomos, for an informal conversation.
