Clinical Research Fellow

University of Leicester - College of Life Sciences - Leicester Cancer Research Centre

CLEC up to £46,215 per annum, giving consideration to the trainees training and experience to date, however salary will also be subject to funding available within the grant.

Full-time, fixed term contract for two years.

Leicester is a leading University committed to international excellence, world-changing research and high quality, inspirational teaching. We are strongly committed to inclusivity, promoting equality and celebrating diversity among our staff and students. Our strength is built on the talent of our scholars, drawn to us by a mutual passion for discovery. We seek to embed an adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit into our research culture, and to create an environment in which both disciplinary excellence and interdisciplinarity thrive.

In this role you will provide research skills and coordination to a new clinical trial called MiST (mesothelioma stratified Therapy), a national, molecularly stratified parallel 4-arm phase IIA umbrella trial of novel therapy for mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a universally lethal cancer caused by asbestos for which there are no effective standard treatments after initial chemotherapy. The goal of MiST is to accelerate the discovery and evaluation of effective treatment for this aggressive cancer as part of a wider research programme closely linked to the mesothelioma translational research laboratory.

The successful candidate will coordinate the enrolment of patients into MiST, coordinate serial biopsies, conduct genomic and transcriptomic analyses of biopsy tissue, and be involved in the development of preclinical models, in order to explore correlations between mutations and drug response, or to unravel potential mechanisms underlying acquired drug resistance.

The post is suitable for a clinically trained investigator, particularly those in specialist training for medical oncology, medicine or surgery, or for those eligible and planning to enter the specialist training grade and who are interested in pursuing a period of full time research leading to a higher degree (MD or PhD).

In return for your hard work, we offer a working environment that is committed to inclusivity, through promoting equality and valuing diversity. We offer a competitive salary package with excellent pension scheme, a generous annual leave allowance and an online portal that offers a range of lifestyle benefits and discounts. Located close to Leicester city centre, our award winning campus benefits from a wide range of cafes, a fully equipped sports centre and nursery facilities. Further information regarding our extensive range of staff benefits is available here.

For informal enquiries, please contact Professor Dean Fennell on (cc: or 0116 258 7597.
