The Role
The UK Top 20 Department of Computer Science at Swansea University is seeking applications from ambitious and talented individuals to join our academic team.

The role provides a very exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and highly regarded UK Department of Computer Science, to be located on a beautiful beachfront campus in the city of Swansea. An exciting opportunity has arisen for academics with excellent teaching aligned to Cyber Security to join Swansea University’s Top 20 UK ranked Department of Computer Science, which is part of the College of Science. The post includes teaching and supervision in Computer Science both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. In particular, the post requires experience, and a commitment to innovative teaching and curriculum development, and to enhancing the overall student learning experience generally. Exceptional applicants with an appropriate academic portfolio may be appointed to a higher grade.

Cyber security is a broad and emerging multidisciplinary academic field, ranging from problems that are highly technical to those that are the social and cultural. The research and scholarly focus can be in any area of Computer Science. The post can enhance existing areas, or bring in new areas that resonate with the Department, that are relevant to Cyber Security. Currently the Department’s main expertise is in Human-Computer Interaction, Graphics and Visualization, and Theoretical Computer Science. We have also developed research in Data Science, Security, High Performance Computing, and the History of Computing.

This post is part of an initiative to drive forward Cyber Security research at Swansea, and to collaborate internationally with academia and industry. The Department has prioritized growth in the area of security research and is advertising four positions aligned to Cyber Security. The Department is planning to offer an MSc in Cyber Security, which will provide a pool of professionals and academics keen to undertake research and development, or provide professional services, in the field. Furthermore, as part of its new Computational Foundry, there is new space for a Cyber Security Lab to be shaped by the successful candidates to serve their research needs.

This post will contribute to the Computational Foundry. The Computational Foundry has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government and Swansea University. The Computational Foundry will make Swansea a beacon for Computer Science, attracting and retaining world class researchers, building up a talented future workforce who will innovate, challenge and disrupt.
