Biomedical Research Centre – Head of Advanced Therapy Quality, Advanced Therapy Manufacturing (GMP) Unit  

The NIHR Guy's and St Thomas' Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is one of the focal points for innovative research into investigational gene and cell therapies through its nationally recognised research portfolio and research infrastructure.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced scientist to fill the role of Head of Advanced Therapy Quality in the BRC’s cell and gene therapy GMP unit at Guy’s Hospital. The unit is licensed to manufacture somatic cell and gene therapy Investigational Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATIMPs) and the position offers the post holder a unique opportunity to expand their career in ATIMP quality management within a unit developing and producing a range of experimental therapies for first in human clinical trials. 

The post holder will be responsible for all aspects of quality within the Unit and will be named as Quality Controller on the unit’s Manufacturing Authorisation. You will lead the unit’s quality team and work with the unit’s Head of Production and visiting scientists to ensure the unit complies fully with all relevant regulatory standards.

To deliver success in this role you will need:

  • Scientific expertise in quality control including development and validation of QC tests/assays;
  • A thorough knowledge and experience of the regulatory environment with a track record of successful interactions with the regulatory authorities;
  • Proven team leadership expertise, with a focus on developing confident self-driven individuals operating effectively within a highly regulated environment;
  • Excellent communication skills, excellent facilitation, influencing and presentation skills with a proven ability to communicate with key customers and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds;
  • An enterprising mindset with proven ability to make decisions, set priorities and optimise resource sharing;
  • A strong customer-service orientation and proven experience in partnership working with customers and a proven ability to collaborate in a highly matrixed environment.
