The Institute of Mathematics at Aberdeen University invites applications for a junior faculty position in all areas of Pure Mathematics. This is a position at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer and normally subject to a probation period of three years. The starting date is 1 September 2018 or an earlier mutually agreed date.

The Institute of Mathematics has an established international reputation in research in pure mathematics, prominently in Topology and Algebra. We are committed to enhancing excellence in research and teaching. Together with the Institute for Complex Systems and Mathematical Biology (ICSMB) we form the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM).

The new appointment will contribute to research and teaching within the Institute of Mathematics, aligning with expertise within the Institute.    The undergraduate mathematics degree offers students a broad-based curriculum in levels one and two with more specialised courses in the honours years. 

The successful applicant will contribute to generating high quality research outputs, research income and the supervision of graduate students.   We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate excellent research and an understanding of undergraduate teaching.

The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Mathematics will be expected to contribute to research, teaching and administrative activities. With a PhD and postdoctoral experience in mathematics, the successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of active and successful research outcomes through publications aligned with expertise in the Institute.

The successful candidate will be given time and encouragement to develop their research activities and will also have opportunities to collaborate with other disciplines if desired.

For appointment made at Lecturer level salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 7 salary scale £39,992 - £47,722 per annum) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.

For appointment made at Senior Lecturer level salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 8 salary scale £50,618 - £56,950 per annum) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
