IT Support Officer

University of Oxford - Department of Engineering Science

Parks Road, Oxford

We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable IT support professional to join our developing IT Team. Based in the Information Engineering Group at our Keble Road campus and working as a member of a team of 25 IT professionals, you will help deliver and improve IT support to the Department of Engineering Science’s academic, support and student community.

Reporting to the Research IT Support Manager and working alongside the Senior Computing Support Officer you will provide advice and hands on IT support, recommending and commissioning new IT equipment, troubleshooting and resolving problems and administering servers in a mainly Linux-driven environment.

Your contribution will support cutting edge and award winning research in diverse fields such as driverless cars, exo-planet detection, economic modelling and multi-sensor networks. Your work will enable the teaching of 600 undergraduates as they undertake an intensive 4-year academic programme that has produced some of the world’s top business and engineering leaders.

Working with us you will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of technologies and platforms. You can expect to be involved in service improvement projects looking at everything from collaboration using cloud data storage to virtual reality.

You should be a team player, with a ‘can-do’ mind set. You will need a good first degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. computer science) or equivalent experience. Experience of Linux systems administration is a must, as is a good understanding of networking and issues related to the storage of large volumes of data.

In return, we offer a challenging and fulfilling working experience with access to a wealth of support and training to help you both succeed in post and develop professionally. This is an exciting time to join the Department's IT Team, which is going through a period of change and growth.
