Professor in Manufacturing

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an international leader in manufacturing, with expertise in smart and future technologies to join Swansea University’s Top 10 UK ranked College of Engineering.

This appointment requires an outstanding candidate with proven strategic, research and operational leadership skills to drive a world-leading research programme engaging with industrial and other partners, to sustain our translational research agenda.

The ideal candidate will have an international track record of research excellence and vision in Smart Manufacturing or Industry 4.0 with experience in fields such Robotics, Collaborative Robotics, Cyperphysical Systems, Automation, Digital Manufacturing, Big Data, Data Analytics, Vision Systems, Smart Sensors, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Cloud/fog computing, energy efficient manufacturing, and innovative smart manufacturing processes to increase productivity and cost-effectiveness in line with requirements for the UK industrial strategy and the “Made Smarter” review.

The appointee will support, enable and lead the growth of a group of manufacturing academics to jointly strategize research and deliver research outcomes of internationally leading quality in a supportive and collaborative environment.

The University would consider appointing an individual, or an individual with attendant group including academics and researchers.

The post also requires high quality delivery of teaching and student learning, graduate supervision and a commitment to enhancing the overall student experience. The appointee should be in a position to teach any of the cognate subjects within our degree schemes.

The appointee will be a member of the Zienkiewicz Centre for Computational Engineering

This post will contribute to the IMPACT operation. IMPACT (Innovative Materials, Processing And Numerical Technologies) has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government and Swansea University. IMPACT will deliver a research centre in a new purpose built facility with state-of-the-art equipment, providing a sustainable, highly competitive, world-class resource and capacity and driving innovation.
