Watt Scholarship in Edinburgh Business School – PhD Opportunity

Heriot-Watt University

Edinburgh Business School (EBS) is the graduate school of business of Heriot-Watt University. We are one of the world's largest providers of postgraduate business education. EBS at Heriot-Watt University is undergoing a process of expansion in terms of research activity and research capacity.

Heriot-Watt University has made substantial investment in the development of start-up and scale-up enablement and support throughout the university. The aim is to create a culture of entrepreneurship, innovation, and reimagining of products, services, processes and applications amongst staff and students. To these ends, we have invested in and conducted several initiatives, schemes and experiments. We seek to learn from these activities, to ascertain what is most effective, why and how.

We are looking to appoint a PhD student to carry out the analysis around these activities. This analysis would comprise the core purpose of this PhD, and would be used to inform future strategies for entrepreneurship and enterprise support and development in the university, and potentially, a model for how to develop entrepreneurship more generally in tertiary education.

A bursary is available for three years of full-time study and includes tuition fee waiver for PhD at UK/EU fees and a stipend at £14,553 plus a research support allowance of £2,250 for the duration of your doctoral study. In order to be eligible for a Heriot-Watt PhD, applicants should hold a first class or upper second class honours undergraduate degree (or equivalent international qualification) and a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a related subject.
