Postdoctoral Research Associate in Galaxy Formation

Durham University - Department of Physics

Contract Type: Full Time & Fixed Term (3 Years)
Closing Date: 03 April 2018 (Midday)

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Galaxy Formation. This is a full time position to work for 36 months on projects related to hydro-dynamical simulations of galaxy formation. The post holder will work with Professors Richard Bower, Tom Theuns, Dr. Michele Fumagalli and other members of the ICC under the directorship of Professor Carlos Frenk. The candidate will be expected to display the initiative and creativity, together with the appropriate skills and knowledge, required to lead the research using cosmological hydro-dynamical simulations of galaxy formation to gain understanding of the role of interstellar chemistry in determining both the physical properties and key observational signatures of forming galaxies.

The successful applicant will be expected to have a broad range of knowledge and skills appropriate to the project goals, specifically developing analyses and models to explore the role of chemistry in galaxy formation, model molecular emission and follow the formation and destruction of interstellar dust.

The successful applicant will be expected to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team. It is expected that the successful applicant will enhance the international contacts of the group through the presentation of work at international conferences and will aid in the supervision of graduate students within the group.
