Chair/Reader/Senior Lecturer in Pain Medicine or Science

We are seeking to appoint a Chair, Reader or Senior Lecturer in Pain Medicine or Science, the level of appointment will depend on research track record and experience.  Applicants should be either:

1) medically qualified and hold a Membership or Fellowship of a relevant Royal Medical College or equivalent qualifications, to be fully registered with the General Medical Council with licence to practise and listed on an appropriate Specialist Register.  In addition to the University role, the appointee, will have an honorary NHS appointment and clinical commitments.


2) a non-medically qualified scientist with a strong interest and research track record in either pain medicine or pain science.

The post has arisen from a unique partnership between the University of Liverpool, the Pain Relief Foundation, and the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust. The three partnering organisations have developed the role to provide a focus and leadership for clinical pain research. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will develop an internationally leading programme of pain related research for patient benefit.

You should have a good, relevant publication record and strong evidence of potential in attracting grant funding. You will be expected to contribute to the research strategy of the Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease, and will be expected to develop an appropriate research programme. You will liaise with basic scientists, as well as human and veterinary clinicians in order to progress existing programmes of work and to develop new projects. If clinically active, you must currently be on or eligible for inclusion on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register and have a Higher research Degree (PhD/MD or equivalent).
