Heriot-Watt University - School of Social Sciences

This new role is to support senior staff within the School of Social Sciences in developing the School’s international partnerships, in particular the development of articulation partnerships with international and domestic partners.

The Role Holder will report to the School’s Director of Administration & School Registrar and will also work closely with members of the School’s Senior Management Team and with colleagues involved in developing and supporting partnership development within the School and across the wider University. 

The role will involve moderate international travel, and some domestic travel, as the role-holder is required to visit current and potential partner institutions in order to organise and participate in information and ‘conversion’ events for potential articulation students and to advise and support students who intend to transfer to Heriot-Watt University to complete their studies.

At present the main focus of the School’s international partnership development activity is in China and India. The School has ambitious plans to expand on this base. 

The key areas of responsibility are:

To play a leading role in coordinating the development and delivery of the School’s international partnership development strategy by providing a high quality of service to academic staff involved in partnership development and to students, applicants and partner institutions.

Working with the appropriate academic leads, identify, assess and support the development of new international partnerships, bringing in best practice in project management, financial planning and partnership working. 

To undertake well planned international travel with specific business objectives and to follow-up on actions to ensure the delivery of outcomes.

To act as a main point of contact for information and guidance on School articulation partnerships. Working in conjunction with the appropriate academic leads, and other professional service colleagues, the role holder will be responsible for ensuring agreements are developed in accordance with University procedures, from initial proposal to finalised agreement.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience in coordinating and supporting partnership development in a Higher Education context and will have a strong knowledge of HE internationalisation issues, business development and communication skills as well as a high level of inter-cultural awareness. The successful candidate will also demonstrate an understanding of HE Quality Assurance processes and risk assessment and a commitment to enhancing the student experience.

You will have an Undergraduate Degree together with experience of producing timely clear and insightful reports to a range of internal stakeholders and have strong analytical and problem solving skills.
