Research Associate

London South Bank University - School of Engineering

Research Associate in signal processing and machine learning for intelligent hearing protection systems.

The Biomedical Engineering and Communications Centre in the School of Engineering at London South Bank University (LSBU) has been successful in winning a prestigious Innovate UK government grant with the London based company EAVE.

This has created an exciting research opportunity to develop an intelligent hearing protection and enhancement system that adjusts to its environment and user requirements. The system must learn to adjust to diverse soundscapes according to user needs and preferences for effective communication and an optimised listening experience in a diverse range of acoustic environments.

The 12-month role would particularly suit those looking to advance their career by being based in a dynamic and progressive research centre whilst acquiring and improving specialist skills in the application of machine learning, and signal processing techniques in real world environments working closely with a London based SME.

The role is a challenging application, employing artificial intelligence to a smart 'hearable' using predictive analytics to develop a machine learning platform.

The applicant must be conversant with:

  • Machine learning techniques to find patterns in data for building learning models to predict future events.
  • Signal processing for determining the best techniques for information extraction from unconstrained acoustic environments.
  • Software & system engineering for developing a modular based machine learning architecture.
  • The platform must be fully integrated into existing products and comply with end user and stakeholder requirements.
