Appointment of Dean – School of Humanities

University of Buckingham

The University of Buckingham is unique, with an independent foundation and an outstanding reputation for its student experience, small group tuition and two-year degrees.   It has grown from its original foundation in 1976 to current levels of some 3000 students and is poised to enter a dynamic stage of development.   It ranks 1st for Teaching Quality, 2nd for student:staff ratio and 4th for Student Experience in 2018 Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide.

In embarking on the next phase of expansion, and following some restructuring, the University wishes to appoint a Dean for the School of Humanities. This is an ideal time to join the University at a time of change and renewal, as it aims to double in size and further strengthen its reputation.

The Dean will provide leadership and strategic direction to the school, overseeing successful student recruitment and expansion, attracting and developing an outstanding academic team, and managing the finances.   The appointee will lead external engagement with relevant partners and stakeholders, with a focus on growing reputation, impact and income.  They will ensure the school is a successful innovator in programme design and delivery, knowledge transfer and applied research, and in providing a world-leading student experience.

The successful candidate will be bright, perceptive, considered a risk-taker with experience of leading successfully in an academic environment.   They will have achieved distinction in their own right as an academic and will complement this with the strategic and management abilities required to deliver the next stage of the University’s development.
