Senior Fashion Technician (Pattern Cutting)

Working as a key post within the Fashion technical team in the Department of Design, you will have primary responsibility for providing specialist technical support to students and staff in the development and cutting of patterns for garment construction.  You should be knowledgeable in the production of blocks and patterns for womenswear, menswear, tailoring, outerwear and daywear skills as well as being able to offer technical support to the cutting of active and non-active sportswear.

You should also be familiar with lingerie and swimwear construction techniques. In particular, a working understanding of both modern and traditional techniques in pattern cutting for a wide range of fabrication is desirable, in order to help students add value to their designs. Knowledge of the construction of ‘soft’ equipment and accessories construction will also enhance your ability to support students. Knowledge of the digital manipulation of patterns and blocks would be advantageous.   You should be willing to learn and demonstrate other applications as required.
