The Occupational Health Service at the University of Essex aims to:

  • Prevent work-related ill health.
  • Facilitate rehabilitation and return to work following periods of illness or injury.
  • Promote physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Occupational Health (OH) actively promotes and maintains good health in the University workplace as well as providing support when health issues occur.

Duties of the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Health Advisor to join a busy team to provide an extensive service to the University of Essex. This post will be responsible for the provision of healthcare students’ pre-placement assessments as well as vaccination and blood clinics and  will be required to manage a caseload of varying occupational health referrals, for both staff and students.

You will also be required to ensure employee records are maintained, provide confidential advice to staff and undertake risk assessments within the workplace where OH expertise is required.

Skills and qualifications required

The successful candidate will have attended a recognised phlebotomy training course and vaccination training course and hold valid competency certificates, along with being a qualified registered Nurse and having a current registration with the NMC.

With experience in an Occupational Health setting, the post holder should have practical skills in carrying out clinical assessments in relation to management referrals and experience of interpreting and analysing complex reports; making recommendations on findings.  You will possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

Experience of running vaccination and blood clinics are also essential, as the role will be supporting healthcare students as they enter onto NHS and community placements during their course.
