Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader in Systems and Predictive Approaches to Biology

The School of Biosciences are appointing to an open-ended post on the Teaching and Research career pathway at Lecturer (Grade 7) or Senior Lecturer/Reader (Grade 8) depending on level of experience and track record.

Applicants should have a strong and innovative research portfolio in any area of experimental biology within the School’s remit in which a significant degree of systems or modelling approaches are being employed. Applicants should demonstrate the application of cutting-edge approaches in modelling, informatics or data-driven systems approaches to inform and direct laboratory experimentation across scales. Applicants able to demonstrate collaborative potential across the School’s Research Divisions are particularly welcome.

The appointee will contribute to:

  • The research output of the School through carrying out a vigorous programme of externally funded research, leading to the publishing of work in high-quality journals
  • The research environment of the Division and School through an open and interactive approach, underpinned by networking and collaboration
  • The teaching programmes of the School by delivering high-quality research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in systems and modelling-informed biology and other areas related to the appointee’s expertise, and supervising students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Academic administrative duties.

The School of Biosciences is one of the largest biological and biomedical science departments in the UK with nearly 100 academic staff and a wide range of research across whole organism and ecosystem biology, molecular biosciences, biomedical research and neuroscience. The School has invested in new research laboratories and in state-of-the-art equipment provided through “Technology Research Hubs” (see www.cardiff.ac.uk/biosciences/research/technology-research-hubs), and is now seeking to recruit ambitious and engaged staff aligned with a new forward-looking research strategy. The School is proud of its Athena Swan Silver award and actively promotes inclusion and diversity

As stated above this, post is for a full time and open-ended appointment on the Teaching and Research pathway in the School of Biosciences.

Salary (depending on experience and track record):

£41,212 - £47,722 per annum (Grade 7) or
£49,149 - £56,950 per annum (Grade 8)
