Research Fellow

Applications are invited for a full time Research Fellow to join Professor Christian Ottensmeier’s team to manage a new clinical trial, with a focus on cancer immunotherapy. The post will be based in the WISH Laboratory, a unit specifically designed to host regulated clinical trial work within the fields of Cancer Immunotherapy, Nutrition, Respiratory disease, and stratified or genomic medicine, situated within the Southampton General Hospital site. This job role falls within the remit of the Cancer Sciences Unit in the Faculty of Medicine, which provides a stimulating working environment for more than 100 scientists, clinicians and associated staff, investigating cancer and its treatment.

You will be required to process a range of patient samples for storage and batched analysis within a highly quality controlled system using techniques such as ELISA, ELISPOT and flow cytometry, including cell sorting. You will be required to comply with meticulous record keeping and database management for all processes undertaken as well as fully comply with legal requirements of ICH-GCP and GCP for laboratories. Training will be provided where necessary.

Candidates must have a PhD (or equivalent professional qualification) and relevant laboratory experience in a responsible role. With a high level of motivation and the ability to work flexibly as part of a team as well as independently. You will require a good understanding of the current health and safety regulations and you must undergo occupational clearance for the job role; previous occupational clearance for similar job roles will be an advantage.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

The appointment is full time, fixed-term for 9 months in the first instance and is tenable from 01 Apr 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
