The Department of Applied Sciences is seeking a research-active Senior Lecturer (equivalent to NHS Band 8A) that specialises in human physiology to contribute to our established and expanding research profile and our programmes of study.

About the role:

This is a full-time, permanent role that will focus on both research and teaching, and will support students on Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses relating primarily to Biomedical Science and Healthcare Sciences.

You will be expected to make a significant contribution to research in the area of biomedical/healthcare science within the department’s Centre for Research in Biosciences or wider faculty’s Centre for Health and Clinical Research. It is anticipated that you will develop a programme of research, utilising existing networks and collaborations, and building collaborations within existing research teams, in order to contribute to the next REF.

The Department of Applied Sciences runs a number of accredited Foundation and BSc (Honours) and MSci programmes in Biomedical Science and Healthcare Science (Physiological Sciences). Our growing postgraduate portfolio includes an MSc in Biomedical Science and MRes programmes.

You will support these programmes by drawing on their experience in physiology from having worked previously in a university and/or practice-based education.

You will lead and participate in the design, development and assessment of module(s), and perform a visible leadership role in relation to the teaching team. You may also be required to undertake administrative duties associated with a highly active academic science department, as required by the Head / Academic Director / Associate Head of Department.

About you:

A research and/or clinical background in physiology in relation to biomedical and/or healthcare scientist training is desirable, as is having some familiarity with educational programmes that incorporate placement-based or work-based learning.

This post requires an enhanced DBS clearance.
