Clinical Research Associate (Fixed Term)

University of Cambridge - Department of Medicine

Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Associate post within the Department of Medicine to work on clinical cardiovascular early phase trials.

The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Medicine and will be a key member of the project team setting up and running a clinical research study called the IVORY trial. The project, including this post, is funded by a Medical Research Council DPFS award.

The IVORY trial will test whether a re-purposed, licensed drug could benefit patients with acute coronary syndromes. It will be a phase II proof-of-concept study using cutting-edge approaches for target validation. These include measurement of both circulating and imaging-derived markers of inflammation (using positron emission tomography (PET)).

This project will provide the successful applicant with unparalleled experience in experimental medicine, clinical trial methodology, vascular biology and imaging across several world-class units within the University of Cambridge. It will appeal to clinical trainees from a wide range of disciplines including Cardiology, Clinical Pharmacology and General Medicine. Full training in skills required for the post will be provided but some previous clinical experience in cardiovascular imaging, including PET, would be an advantage.

It is essential that the applicant is fully registered with the GMC for the duration of the appointment and that they already hold a National Training Number.

The clinically-qualified candidate will learn many laboratory, imaging and clinical research techniques, broadening their ability to understand and apply experimental medicine techniques in the future in the area of translational medicine.
