MRS Physicist

University of Oxford - Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences

John Radcliffe Hospital

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an outstanding postdoctoral physicist to lead the research using MR Spectroscopy and related techniques at the newly created Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging (WIN) at the University of Oxford.

The successful candidate to this prestigious appointment will develop and implement novel Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) and Chemical Shift Imaging (CSI) approaches at 3T and 7T, and facilitate their use for neuroscientific, and potentially clinical, applications. There will be an option for multinuclear MRS in addition to proton-based approaches. The post will be based primarily at the Centre for Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Brain (FMRIB), part of the WIN.

We are looking to appoint an outstanding, highly-motivated candidate with an excellent academic track-record in developing and implementing novel MR sequences to drive this exciting program of research.

The successful applicant will be looking to develop their own independent research group, and will be strongly supported in applications for competitive Fellowships and grant funding by senior staff. The postholder will be a key member of the FMRIB Physics Group (headed by Professors. Peter Jezzard and Karla Miller), as well as the Physiological Neuroimaging Group (headed by Dr Stagg) and will work closely with Dr Stuart Clare and the WIN Physics support team.

This post represents an important strategic appointment for the Centre, and will provide both excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations and a world-leading environment for the right candidate to establish their independent, internationally-competitive research program.

Applications from excellent postdoctoral researchers at an earlier career stage would also be welcome, for whom the job requirements and salary would be amended appropriately. Candidates are invited to discuss their individual applications with Dr Stagg or Professor Jezzard.

For an outline of the Centre’s research interests and links to further information see www.ndcn.ox.ac.uk/divisions/fmrib

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Stagg (charlotte.stagg@ndcn.ox.ac.uk) or Professor Jezzard (peter.jezzard@ndcn.ox.ac.uk).

The post is full-time for a 3 year fixed-term contract in the first instance, with a possible extension for another 2 years.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 23 April 2018 will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
