Head of Business Engagement

The Head of Business Engagement will be a dynamic, confident and capable individual with the significant leadership experience needed to develop this diverse and growing area of the University’s activities. You will have the wide range of skills, experience and creativity needed to deliver in this demanding and complex business facing role and will focus on developing a high-quality and consistent commercial offering.

This post is one of three new senior leadership roles within the Research & Knowledge Exchange Directorate with the specific responsibility of providing strategic and operational management to implement the University’s innovation strategy (HEIF)

You will provide leadership to both central RKE and faculty-based staff overseeing the growth and integration of the University’s broad offering to business and developing approaches which respond to the opportunities of national and regional growth strategies.

You will work closely with academic colleagues and professional service teams to maximise innovation funding opportunities, SME support programmes and intellectual property exploitation to increase commercial income growth.

You will demonstrate in-depth understanding of the UK funding landscape and the ability to develop strategies to ensure the university is well placed to respond to external change. A key feature will be extensive experience of leading and delivering business engagement projects and managing complex external funding applications across a broad range of sectors.

The role would suit a pro-active and highly experienced business development professional who has a strong track-record in leading and managing an IP portfolio and developing commercial income streams in a UK University environment.

The post holder will be required to demonstrate significant negotiation skills and expertise in developing productive relationships with commercial partners and regional business growth agencies.
