Teaching Fellow in Quantitative Research Methods

Part-Time: 7.3 hours per week (20% FTE).

The Department of Political Science would like to recruit a Teaching Fellow on a seasonal basis for the 2018/19 academic year for the course ‘Introduction to Quantitative Research Methods’.

Main duties of the post include being the seminar leader for four seminars per week, generating weekly workshops, providing demonstrations, responding to student’s questions in an online forum, and answering questions for material presented in lecture. The Teaching Fellow will be expected to first mark assignments, exam and essay scripts (in line with the Department’s procedures, at the appropriate times during the academic session), and are expected to attend the weekly lecture given by the course tutor and be available for office hours each week as required.

The successful candidate will be employed from 1st September 2018 to 28th February 2019 fixed-term.

Applicants must a hold or be in the process of submitting a PhD or be currently enrolled in a PhD programme in politics or an appropriate discipline. The applicant must have excellent working knowledge of R and R Studio and knowledge of basic social science statistics (including panel data models and limited dependent variable models). The ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with students, academic and administrative staff at all levels is essential.

Previous experience of teaching quantitative research methods at the postgraduate level would be desirable.
