Our new Biomedical Technology Research Centre is aiming to research and develop novel biomedical technology solutions for healthcare, pharmaceuticals, medical engineering, medical informatics and medical devices sectors. We are seeking talented, ambitious and energetic individuals as Research Fellows or Senior Research Fellows for the new research centre.
We welcome applications from research scientists who have demonstrable experience and skills in the following areas:
- drug discovery through phenotypic screening
- development of medium-high throughput screening assays
- medical device and technology development using physiological signals
- mathematical and computer modelling of physiological systems
- hardware and/or software design for healthcare/medical applications
- biomechanics, biomedical engineering or medical device engineering
- gait/motion analysis research
- development of molecular diagnostic kits for the diagnosis of infectious diseases based on aptamer and PCR technology
- medical informatics/bioinformatics
- medical image processing
- mobile app development for healthcare
- clinical decision support system
The fellows will be placed in the following research groups:
- Drug Discovery Research Group (Group Leader: Prof Selim Cellek; Faculty of Medical Science)
- Engineering and Built Environment Department (Head of Department: Prof Keith Jones; Faculty of Science and Technology)
- Medical Informatics Research Group (Group Leader: Prof Alamgir Hossain; Faculty of Science and Technology)
- Medical Technology and Device Research Group (Group Leader: Prof Dingchang Zheng; Faculty of Medical Science)
- Molecular Diagnostic Group (Group Leader: Prof Stephen Bustin; Faculty of Medical Science)
The positions will be for three years, whilst the time during this period will be ring-fenced for research, you'll be expected to take part in teaching undergraduate students and training postgraduate research students from time to time when and if possible.
You'll be able to demonstrate competence in research and development in one of the research areas listed above. You'll have experience of writing concise, comprehensive reports, and will have a good understanding of the techniques applicable to the research area. You'll be able to analyse data critically and will have an enthusiastic and flexible approach.
Whilst you'll be based in one of the research groups and will be line-managed by the relevant group leader, all five fellows will be expected to work in tandem to develop collaborative research projects and joint funding bids.
