Postdoctoral Physicist in Preclinical MRI

University of Oxford - Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences

John Radcliffe Hospital

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Postdoctoral Physicist in Preclinical MRI.

The Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences consists of different divisions, this particular post falls within the Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain (FMRIB) within the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging (WIN); the successful candidate will be reporting to Professor Karla Miller. The group develops, validates and applies novel MRI techniques for basic and clinical neuroscience. One of the main research lines is aimed at developing methods to predict neuropathological stains from in-vivo and post-mortem MRI signals.

This post will focus on relating histopathology and MRI in rodent models of ALS, in collaboration with Professor Kevin Talbot at the Oxford Motor Neuron Disease Centre and Professor Olaf Ansorge at Neuropathology in Clinical Neurology. The project will involve developing acquisition protocols (including limited pulse sequence development) as well as conducting and analysing animal experiments.

You will be expected to take an independent and proactive role in managing the research process, maintaining and setting up collaborations, and generating new research. For this reason, the ability to manage your own academic research and associated activities is important.

You will have a Doctoral degree (PhD or DPhil) or nearing completion thereof, in physics, engineering or other relevant discipline. You must possess expertise in MR physics, such as sequence development, experience in MR image analysis. Although not essential, it is desirable that you possess some experience with designing and running animal imaging experiments, including animal handling. You must be able to independently operate MRI scanners and have a track record in programming such as MATLAB, python and/or C++.

For informal discussions regarding the post, please contact Professor Karla Miller (karla.miller@ndcn.ox.ac.uk).

The post is full-time, fixed-term for 3 years in the first instance.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Monday 14 May 2018 will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
