Postdoctoral Research Assistants

University of Dundee - MRC PPU

Grade 7 (starting points 29-31 only £31,604 – £33,518)

Applications are invited for several postdoctoral positions to work with Sir Philip Cohen on projects aimed at understanding how the interplay between protein phosphorylation and protein ubiquityation controls the immune system. The projects will build on a number of unexpected discoveries we have made recently (Strickson et al, 2017, PNAS 114, E3481-E3489; Zhang et al, 2017, Biochem. J 474, 2235-2248; Nanda et al, 2016, J.Immunol. 197, 4266-4273).

The positions, which are funded by major Programme Grants recently awarded by the Medical Research Council and Wellcome Trust, are available for 3 years initially. The positions can start immediately, but applicants wishing to begin at any time up to October 2018 will be considered.

Candidate requirements:

  • PhD with an outstanding academic track record and at least one first authored publication in an internationally recognised peer-reviewed journal.
  • Previous experience in immunology, cell signalling or protein chemistry would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills and knowledge of the English language are essential.

MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (PPU) and School of Life Sciences (SLS):
The project will be performed in the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC-PPU) and School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee, which are located in the Sir James Black Centre and Wellcome Trust Building at the University of Dundee in a beautiful location overlooking the estuary of the River Tay. The MRC-PPU is one of the world’s leading centres for research on the role of protein phosphorylation and ubiquitylation in cell signalling.
