Research Fellow - AR2064AS

University of St Andrews - School of Chemistry (and EaStCHEM)

Start Date: 1 July 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter

Fixed Term: 24 months

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to work in the laboratory of Prof Philip Lightfoot within the School of Chemistry on a project entitled “New Layered Perovskite Materials with Diverse Functionality”.

This is a collaborative project with Dr Finlay Morrison and Prof John Irvine (St Andrews), the aim of which is to develop the solid state chemistry of a new family of layered perovskites (oxides). The target compounds will be of interest for a variety of prospective physical properties, such as ionic and electronic conductivity, ferroelectricity and magnetism. The project will focus on the synthesis and structural/ physical characterisation of these compounds, together with some computational studies.

This is a 2 year Leverhulme Trust funded project available from 1 July 2018.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Solid State/Materials Chemistry, Materials Science or a closely related discipline, ideally with a strong background in the preparation and characterisation of inorganic materials.  Experience of crystallographic and electrical characterisation techniques would be an advantage but is not essential.

Informal enquiries can be made directly to Professor Phil Lightfoot ( or Tel:  01334 463841.

The University is committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and Stonewall).  More details can be found at
