Lecturer in Petroleum Geoscience

Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in the Petroleum Geoscience or Geoscience discipline with relevance to the oil and gas industry. Candidates must also have:

  • an in depth knowledge and experience in the areas of Biostratigraphy and Geochemistry
  • a wide background in Petroleum Geoscience and a combination of teaching, research and relevant field/industrial experience
  • a strong record of original research and peer reviewed publications

Considerable experience with applying for external funding and joint projects with the oil and gas industry is preferred.

Special Responsibilities

  • Advising student projects
  • Developing and supporting teaching, research and outreach in the Petroleum Studies Unit
  • Training and researching activities aligned with the needs of the national and regional oil and gas industry

Personal Attributes
The Department places high priority on individuals who can work well in a team environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates must also be able to:

  • interact positively with academic and support staff within the Department and the University as well as interface with the oil and gas industry
  • independently develop their own R&D programme
