Lecturer in Mathematics (Education and Scholarship)

Mathematics across the University of Exeter’s campuses encompasses an exciting range of research-focused academic fields, with particular strengths in applied and pure disciplines. Mathematics on the Penryn Campus in Cornwall is truly inter-disciplinary with strong interactions across a number of fields including mining, engineering, renewable energies and environmental research. We are seeking an individual that can provide excellent teaching and support for these interactions.

We encourage proactive engagement with industry, business and community partners to enhance the impact of research and education and improve the employability of our students.

The post will include:

  • Responsibility for the development, delivery and administration of teaching at undergraduate level within the Mathematical Sciences programme and service teaching in other disciplines
  • Contribution to academic and pastoral support for undergraduate students in Mathematical Sciences, and other related disciplines, as appropriate
  • Contribution to outreach and recruitment activities within Mathematical Sciences and the college more generally
  • Support the college’s general teaching and administrative activities

You will:

  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent in Mathematics or related discipline to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning in this academic area
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities
  • Demonstrate a range of delivery techniques to engage and enthuse students
  • Have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond your teaching
  • Be committed to excellence in teaching across a broad range of mathematical topics at undergraduate level
  • You are expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this
