This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious graduate with passion about environment and ability and confidence to manage a collaborative partnership with The University of Manchester and Kenny Waste Management Limited. Kenny Waste Management specialises in the provision of bespoke waste management solutions, supporting clients across the UK ranging from blue chip multinationals to SMEs in their aim to dispose of waste in an environmentally safe and controlled manner.

We are looking to recruit a high calibre individual with a background either in software development or image recognition to undertake this 30-month project which has an overall aim of developing advanced deep learning image recognition software and platform for building waste type recognition and reporting.

This exciting post provides an excellent opportunity to use cutting edge research skills in image processing and recognition to develop a novel recognition system that will dramatically raise the quality and standard of waste reporting with both economic and environmental benefits.

You will have a unique opportunity to learn the state-of-the-art deep learning and image processing techniques and apply them to one of the most challenging image recognition problems to develop a cutting edge industrial application software suite. 

Candidates will require a recently-obtained minimum of a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in computer science or electronic engineering and either a PhD, or Master’s degree with industrial experience in computer science or electronic engineering.

This post is funded through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) award, a UK Government scheme intended to promote sustained and mutually beneficial relationships between universities and industry. There are professional development opportunities as well as training courses on business, environment protection and project management.

The KTP associate will be an employee of the University of Manchester but will be based at Kenny Waste Management, Greater Manchester, with regular supervisions meetings with the University supervisory team and industrial supervisors of Kenny Waste Management and will use the facilities and resources of both organisations.
